SPEAKERS: Lilia D. Monzo
…with a comment by Kevin B. Anderson

A Marxist revolution must be inherently anti-racist and anti-sexist if it is to actually uproot capitalism. If we embrace this central tenet we can draw in the revolutionary force and reason of women of color! We will discuss challenges and possibilities for today and also for our revolutionary heritage. Among the latter are how Marx has been misread, and his writings on gender and on women of color ignored.

Lilia D. Monzo teaches at Chapman University, where she uses Marxist-Humanist and decolonial approaches to confront capitalism and imperialism, racism, and the hyper-exploitation of women of color, while envisioning a socialist alternative. She has published in such journals as POSTCOLONIAL DIRECTIONS IN EDUCATION and TRUTHOUT.

Kevin B. Anderson teaches at UC-Santa Barbara.  He is has written widely on Marxism, critical theory, and on race and gender, and is the author of MARX AT THE MARGINS: NATIONALISM, ETHNICITY, AND NON-WESTERN SOCIETIES and the coauthor of FOUCAULT AND THE IRANIAN REVOLUTION: GENDER AND THE SECUCTIONS OF ISLAMISM. He is also the coeditor of the ROSA LUXEMBURG READER.
